Profile
Originally formed in 2018 by Peter Wolfe (guitar and vocals), Copperworm has undergone various lineup changes to arrive at its current formation, with founder Peter Wolfe on vocals and guitar, Jon ‘Monty’ Montgomerie on lead guitar, Neil Isherwood thumping out the bass lines, and James Montgomerie delivering the beat-laden rhythms on drums. Peter’s gravelly vocals add grit to the songs, perfectly underlining their meaning, which challenge perceptions and confront people’s views of the modern world.
Following the initial submission of the original lineup’s recording of "One Life" to Guy Bellamy’s Friday Rock Show in 2019, Copperworm has gone from strength to strength, growing their audience and gaining more airplay across a range of online and FM stations.
Recognized by listeners and fans alike, Copperworm achieved Single of the Year 2020 for the collaborative work “Desolate Days” (CovAid2020), written by Peter Wolfe about COVID-19 and the fear people felt. Since then, the band has consistently ranked in the top 20 for Band of the Year, achieving Band of the Month in April 2023 and Album of the Month in August 2023.
Most notably, out of 129 bands and over 20,000 votes, Copperworm secured the number 7 spot for Band of the Year on Guy Bellamy’s Rock Show on greatmusicstories.com. Copperworm is very definitely a force to be reckoned with.
Based in Warrington, Cheshire, the band has performed at a number of local venues, including the Snig (Widnes), the Cheshire Cheese (Warrington), and the Salty Dog (Northwich). They’ve also played further afield with festival appearances in 2019 at Wildfire Festival in Scotland and in 2022 (post-COVID lockdowns) at Longton Live, Barnsley Live, and Chorley Live festivals, making such a strong impression that they were booked to play those festivals again. Additionally, Copperworm played the Sheffield Tramlines Fringe Festival in 2023.
Copperworm is primed and ready to make 2026 a truly amazing year. With a recent Matchbox Session recordings and another recording session in the pipe, look no further for a gritty, honest, and essential alternative rock band!
